We’re three weeks into the fifth month and it’s becoming all too clear: Eli is a big boy now. It feels like he’s developing his personality at a rocketship pace–and becoming more independent, bossy, and ambitious every second. His little coos and tiny-baby wails have given way to full-on hollers, dolphin-like shrieks, and squeals of both joy and frustration. He’s super curious about everything now, and unbelievably interested in textures. He grabs at everything, from drinking cups to toys to counter tops. Particular favorites include Stanley the cat, daddy’s stubble, and, we learned this weekend, Frappucino cups. Some of his rapid-fire development is proving frustrating to both him and us. For example, now that he can roll, he’s starting to roll around his crib and keep himself awake–particularly when he ends up on his tummy and decides he’s stuck. Nights have gotten a bit more sleepless since that one started. Here’s a pictorial of Eli’s growth (he’s even getting a signature expression!):
Chilling with daddy:
Holding his own bottle:
Standing (almost) on his own:
Learning to sit up:
And finally, astonished at the size of his own foot.*
*This is an optical illusion. Eli’s feet, while large, are not in fact of the freakish variety.

Ah…mister, you’re getting so BIG! I can’t believe how much you’ve grown since we last saw you. Slow down…just a bit until we see you next. I also love your Very Hungry Caterpillar shirt. It’s one of my favorite books.
